The small port and its ghost companies

September 3, 2001

I went several times to a port in the north of the country. On paper, several companies are based there. They rent offices, sign contracts, invoice services at very high added value.

In reality, I find almost no one. Most of these companies have no employees. Others share the same address. One secretary answers for three different companies. Fictitious goods circulate alongside money arriving from Sweden.

“I cannot yet say who organises this system. I can only show that it exists.”
